WHAT IS THE CARE QUALITY COMMISSION?

The CQC is the independent regulator of Health and Social Care in England, with the objective of ensuring that people have access to safe, caring, effective, responsive, and well-led care services. They monitor, inspect, and regulate these services to make sure that they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety. They publish what they find and give each provider performance ratings.

KEY QUESTIONS ASKED BY THE CQC

There are five key questions asked by the CQC of care providers. They are often referred to as Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOEs):

  1.  Are they safe? – You are protected from abuse.

  2.  Are they effective? – Your care, treatment, and support achieve good outcomes, help you to maintain quality of life and are based on the best available evidence.

  3.  Are they caring? – Staff involve and treat you with compassion, kindness, dignity, and respect.

  4.  Are they responsive to people’s needs? – Services are organised so that they meet your needs.

  5.  Are they well led? – Leadership, management, and governance of the organisation should all make sure it is providing high-quality care that is based on your individual needs, encourages learning and innovation, and that it promotes an open and fair culture.

Supported living providers that provide the regulated activity 'Personal care' are required by law to register with CQC. It is a criminal offence to provide 'Personal care' without being registered with CQC.

WHAT IS PERSONAL CARE REGULATED ACTIVITY?

Providing Personal Care

Anyone who provides an adult with physical assistance with eating or drinking, going to the toilet, washing or bathing, dressing, oral care, or care of the skin, hair, or nails because of the adult's age, illness, or disability, is in regulated activity.

OUR CQC STATUS

We have applied to register the service with CQC, we are awaiting the outcome of our registration application. We are therefore unable to accept people in need of personal care until our CQC application is successful.

We are currently considering adult placement without the need for personal care pending the outcome of our CQC application.

Please note that all the regulated activity ‘Personal Care’ we offer will not commence until after the CQC registration. Application in progress.
